B.R.T. Reader Rampage 61 - The Haunting of E.C.R. Former.
 ***
 Synopsis:

It was good to have something to do.

It was odd, being dead, mused the former commander, turning over what seemed
like sickly earth, if indeed that were the term for a substance that was,
 by definition, quite unearthly.

One began to realize what mortality was. All that urgency to get something
done. Here, there was nothing but time. Here he was, with a little shovel,
some seeds, the poisonous land and the toxic air. How big, this field?
Maybe a thousand miles across? It just faded out, there was no horizon.
But when you had nothing but time, no need to eat, no need to sleep, no need
even to breathe - why, you could plant it all.

At least until the seeds ran out. Then he'd have to find new ones. Perhaps
sit and wait for the seeds to grow. That would be different, just watching.
 Watching for a year.

He could do it. There was nothing but time. He could repeat it until
the whole field was full, like that one time, driving across Kansas.
That had been a pretty sight, that whole field full of sunflowers.
Maybe that's why he found the seeds..

He paused, remembered, and went back to work.
It was good to have something to do...
